Gratitude is the quality of being thankful, and the readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.

Feeling thankful, grateful or appreciative; noticing simple pleasures, focusing on what you have rather than what you want.

An individual expressing gratitude is often happy for some kind of assistance that they have previously received. A person who is feeling grateful will be usually more willing to help out, show compassion, and be respectful towards others.

A person choosing gratitude will often feel energetic in life and readily give support to others.

Gratitude can be thought of as a habit of mind.  A person can choose to think positively and focus on an attitude of gratitude.

A person choosing gratitude will often experience happiness or joy at a deeper level and have a general enthusiastic and compassionate outlook on life.

Gratitude is a common emphasis amongst many faiths and spiritualities.  It can be thought of as giving thanks to a higher power, or as recognizing beauty and good in all circumstances of life.
