Although symptoms of abuse vary depending on the situation, common signs of abuse include: feelings of humiliation, helplessness, guilt, depression, and fear, experiencing self-blame, feeling isolated, and neglecting oneself.
Abuse can affect a person physically, intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. Intellectually a person may feel they need to become extra alert or hypervigilant, which can lead to being jumpy and/or experiencing insomnia in the physical quadrant. Emotionally, a person may feel ashamed and choose to disconnect from others, leading to feelings of isolation.
